Feb. 7-9, 2014 Ragnar relay Florida Keys race

Team Changes In Latitude: 34 hours, 26 minutes, 5 seconds! 198 miles!

We placed 7th out of 12 teams in the Women's Regular Open Division.
We placed 292 out of 454 teams overall.

What an interesting race experience. The team of 12 each has 3 legs to run, all different distances. My 1st leg was 2.69 miles (took me 26:46). My 2nd leg was 7.62 miles (took me 1:26:34). This was in the middle of the night running on Key Largo. I had some major leg pain after this run, wasn't sure I would be able to run again. I could only wait to see what would happen. It didn't feel like a bleed. After a few hours of rest, I felt like I could complete my part. My last leg was 2.02 miles (took me 21:49). My knee gave me troubles after this leg, due to running on gravel, which is not normal for me.  I factored up, iced it, rested and kept my knee brace on for the next couple days.  No further factor was needed.  Whew!
The above picture is of the entire team after the race had been completed. As you can see, I am wearing my knee brace for a bit of extra support.
This picture is of those of us who rode in Van 1.
This picture is during my last leg of the race.

Feb. 2, 2014 Melbourne Music Half Marathon Relay

Team Fearless Philos: 2:02:07
We placed 10th out of 45 Coed Teams!

Even though this was only a little over 6 miles (which I normally don't factor for), I did factor prior to running my half of the relay. My knee felt a bit off, so I decided better safe than sorry. No more factor was needed after the race for me.

I had a great time running as a team with my amazing husband! He is such a rock for me!

Jan. 11, 2014 Disney World Half Marathon

Finished: 2:36:55
521 out of 1670 in my age group.
3261 out of 11,202 females.
7759 out of 20,242 total participants.

I felt ok at the beginning (factoring prior), but started to have hip pain around mile 8. No PR today, but was happy to complete my 6th half marathon! You can see in the 2nd picture, I have ice on my knee and hip, held in place with Saran Wrap. After taking an Epsom salt bath, and resting a bit, I feel much better.

It was after this race that I decided to really step things up and start to train for a FULL marathon... yes, 26.2 MILES! I will do Disney World Marathon this weekend NEXT year! I have decided to be very safe about this decision and work with a team of professionals to help my body get into the best shape possible... Not only for a marathon, but also to live a better life with hemophilia. Having a healthier body to have fewer bleeding episodes! I WILL show hemophilia who the boss is! I intend to keep track of "the good, the bad, and the ugly" in this blog to show what a person with hemophilia must go through in order to make goals happen.
